Thrill the World – The entire city grooving to Michael Jackson

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Taken from thrilltheworld.com:

Thrill The World is a worldwide attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the Largest Simultaneous Dance with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Thousands of people in cities around the world will learn the “Thriller” dance and perform it at the exact same time on October 27/ 28, 2007. If you’ve ever seen the music video and thought, “I wish I could do that!” – this year, you will.

San Francisco is participating in this event.

Saturday, October 27 at Dolores Park. Meeting time is 2pm and the mass thrilling begins at 3. Let me know if you’re going and I’ll see you there!

Verde Tea Espresso Bar – Green with envy over Cafe Verde

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Free internet + delicious (tapioca) drinks + actual Mexicans working at the front counter. America truly is the land of opportunity for all. I just wish the place was brighter and had more of a fun feel to it.

I loved the Verde smoothie drink: matcha green tea + avocado = not too sweet but packed with flavor. $3.50. The rose smoothie I didn’t like as much – it was sweeter and tasted like ginger, but it wasn’t too bad.

San Francisco needs more places like this – something other than Quickly!

Ramen House Ryowa – Mountain View’s ramen spot

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Sorry Jen – The ramen here does not even compare to Santa Ramen’s. After thinking about it, the ramen was pretty bland; however, they did give free kimchi, they do close fairly late at 11pm, and I did think the counter-seating layout was cool. It’s probably a good way to meet new people, like that little boy who sat beside us and had to keep listening to Nhung’s swearing.

Princess Party – Hot girls coming through

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Well, hot in the future. Ever been to a 6-year-old girl’s birthday party? It’s not the most exciting and adventurous of parties out there, but I have to admit, the girls just looked too cute and innocent in their princess costumes.

Big City Improv – LOLing all night long

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

You know what sucks about going to a comedy show? Everyone else around you thinks their comedians. I don’t know how many sarcastic and witty (and perverted) remarks I heard that night, but I tried really hard not to let it get on my nerves.

Anyway, I was LOLing all night, and if there was space to move around, I might have actually ROTFLOLed a couple times. I’ve never been to an improv show before, but my friend Sam who goes every so often said it seemed slightly amateur. Still, she had a great time. The stage and seating was small (inside the Shelton Theatre) and cramped, the seats were lumpy, and I wasn’t too fond of a couple acts, but overall, I had a lot of fun. The cast was friendly and the show was interactive and called for audience members to participate a couple times.

The gang performs every Friday night at 10pm, and since everything is improv, meaning nothing is rehearsed, every show will always be something new. I believe the other popular improv comedy show in the city is BATS Improv. I’ll have to check that out.

Anyone want to go watch more improv shows with me?
